Open Question
Pacquiao-Margarito as a replacement fight for the superfight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, to me it's an OK?
I think Bob Arum's a little out of it considering matching up Pacman and El Tijuana Tornado. I mean, it's not as intriguing and intense as the preferred superfight. (Dewey, shut the **** up and stop calling Manny a juicer, you have no proof, dumbass so please dont answer this question) Anyways, how would this fight turn out? Margarito recently had a convincing victory over Roberto Garcia so does this tell us he is still the same fighter after the beating he took from the great Shane Mosley? Who wins? Manny's handspeed and dynamic knockout power or Antonio's reach and flurries?

Answer Question
One thing I can say is a definite.... the fight will be very entertaining. Both men are high volume punchers, which alone makes the fight exciting. Anyway, I see Pacquiao winning due to his superior speed over Margarito. Margarito doesn't use his reach and height well, because he tends to fight inside and leaves himself open to a lot of hits. Though it wouldn't be the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight that everyone wants to see, I would still be excited about watching a Pacquiao-Margarito.
answer: Woody time: 2010-11-20 15:46:23I agree with you- I would much rather see Manny Pacquiao face Floyd Mayweather like the rest of the world wants to see and I genuinely hope that fight comes to fruition in the near future but I'll always be skeptical with all of the drug/blood testing issues that killed the fight in the first place. With that being said, a Pacquiao-Margarito fight is not that bad of a replacement in terms of entertainment value because both guys are never in a bad fight and both are willing to bring it for a full 12 rounds- it would be a decent matchup, although it would also be on that Margarito doesn't deserve but since he's with Bob Arum, it has a decent shot at happening and I wouldn't be surprised to see it come off later this year (assuming Pacquiao-Mayweather doesn't happen).
~ I believe that the fight would turn out to be highly entertaining- as previously stated, both guys are never in dull fight and they both throw tons of punches with neither guy wanting to take a backward step, plus neither guy is a powder-puff puncher- they both aren't monstrous punchers but they both have respectable power and they are both the type of fighter to break their opponent down with pressure and aggression. Pacquiao threw over a hundred punches per round against Joshua Clottey and Margarito broke the compubox record for most punches thrown when he fought Clottey, they both brutally stopped Miguel Cotto (although there is a cloud of suspicion hanging over Margarito's victory due to the hand-wrapping controversy) and they come forward all night long- it would be a test of if Pacquiao can fight effectively while at the same time avoiding Margarito's onslaught. I think that as long as Pacquiao fights smart and doesn't stay on the inside for too long against Margarito, then he will win the fight, most likely be decision although a knockout wouldn't surprise me in the late rounds especially after how Shane Mosley knocked Margarito out: if Pacquiao doesn't fight smart though, Margarito will walk him down and stop him but I don't envision that happening.
~ I'm not so sure how much the decision win over Roberto Garcia tells us. To me, it tells me that Margarito is still good enough to compete at the top level because Garcia was not a world-beater but at the same time, he was a decent contender who was not a journeyman or a bum. I don't think that the beating he took from Shane Mosley will have any lasting effects on Margarito- he's not the type of fighter to let a humiliating loss such as the one to Mosley get under his skin and make him become a different fighter or hinder his future performances (unlike Miguel Cotto or Kermit Cintron- 2 of his former victims). Whether or not he is still as good as he was before the Mosley loss is the real question and I don't think that the win over Garcia did a whole lot towards answering that but I think it at least showed that he's not a shot fighter.
~ As previously stated, I think Pacquiao would win a decision assuming he doesn't fight stupid or try to outfight Margarito on the inside.
~ I think that Pacquiao would win more due to the angles that he comes at his opponents with rather than his knockout power (his handspeed would definitely play a part in the victory though). In order to beat Margarito, you have to either outbox him (like Rodney Jones and Daniel Santos did early in his career) or you have to outfight him (like Paul Williams and Shane Mosley did later in his career)- I think that Pacquiao can do a bit of both since he has the tools and the ring smarts to do both but he will not be able to just walk Margarito down like he did with Cotto, he will have to use his angles as previously stated.
That will be a great fight if you like fixed fights.
The EXPOSED JUICE HEAD Manny can ONLY have fixed fights.
Margaritos a cheat and doesn't deserve the chance.Besides what good will it do Manny fighting the guy that was demolished by Mosley who was dominated by Floyd.
answer: whatwasi... time: 2010-11-16 17:46:02This fight wouldn't be exciting what so ever. Manny would run through Marg's in less than 7rds. If Manny takes another fight that he's guaranteed to win (clottey/Hatton/Cotto) than I will stop watching him all together. Margarito wouldn't even be a challenge let alone a challenger. Tony has no movement what so ever, no real power, and his aggressive style is taylor made for Manny. He's slow, lethargic, predictable in every way, and has absolutely no defense. No side to side movement, no hand speed, and the list goes on. Not to mention he hasn't been the same fighter since the Cotto war (nor was Cotto). So another hand picked easy outing for Manny Pacquioa. He better suck it up and just take that damn test and fight Mayweather, I want to see a mega fight before the sport gets over shadowed by MMA (NOT).
