Ridgecrest BLM Shooting?
Does anyone know of some places I can shoot pistols, rifles, and shotguns on BLM land in Kern County, as close to LA County as possible (somewhere around Rosamond or Mojave). The few sheriff stations I called said to call the Bureau of Land Management to find what I'm looking for. A ton of forums I've been on also suggest to contact BLM. After calling BLM all the said was to buy a map. Is this map going to tell me exactly where I can shoot? I'd like to go shooting this weekend and I live too far from the nearest BLM office to walk in and buy one. So in the mean time, does anyone know of some spots on BLM land closest to LA County where I can shoot? Thanks for your answers in advance.

Answer Question
If you are on BLM land, and not violating any state laws regarding distance to dwellings, shooting over roads, etc, then you are fine. I shoot on BLM land all the time. Weekly, actually.
Few points:
Clean up your trash/old targets.
look and LISTEN. if you hear gunshots, use caution.
Make sure you have a backstop thats suitable (hillside)
Make sure that some ATV's or dirtbikes dont come flying over the top of the hill. (look for trails and listen for them)
if you see shells and cases littering the ground, you are in the right spot.
the map isnt going to tell you where to shoot, just the features and boundries of the BLM parcel. In the worst case scenario (which is very highly unlikely), you might get asked to move or leave by a ranger, game warden or cop. In all the years ive been on BLM land, once and only once have i even encountered an 'official' who turned out to be a game warden looking for poachers. Quick chat and he was on his way, no issue.
There is the a shooting range off of S. China Lake Blvd just before you get to 395, or just keep going straight onto Brown road turn left after the long turn and dip, that has a few different gun ranges operated by a few clubs, or just keep going down that road take the first left and you will see a car upside down and a bunch of other targets that have been left by a$$holes. There are way to many to list here, but just pick up after yourself please
answer: C time: 2010-10-01 08:13:18Have you tried checking out any one of the following clubs that are in your area for shooting ranges?
There were some places in the Tehachapi Mountains, around Edwards Air Force Base, and in the Lancaster area that have unmarked shooting areas. You might find some places in the Angeles Forest area or near Phelan that have some shooting areas.

If you don't already have them, how about something like these;

Of course, you'll need shoes too. Maybe you don't like the idea of clips though. Then, maybe see about getting a high tech saddle, like one of these.

Then, you could always get a really nice helmet

Maybe some fancy new grips?
