I think the answer truly depends on what sport one individual is a pure fan of. NASCAR indeed is a popular sport, in that scores of millions fill race arenas, watching powerfully modified stock cars zip by at over 200 mph., passing each other by inches, risking destruction and death---to reach the Finish Line. NASCAR fans all share one constant: The hope to see a destructive wipe out on the track--where the drivers involved cheat death.

When you think about it, NASCAR fans aren't much different than Roman citizens who filled the Coliseum to watch gladiators fight to the death.

Baseball, football, soccer, hockey---we can point out why we are fans of such sports with some good points on why we love them: To watch people conquer overwhelming challenges to achieve victory.

Note I didn't interject basketball--which I'm NOT a fan of: The sport is over-hyped and grossly unorganized.

Nascar. it's Number 1 in my world.
