What level are Jackson Mystique for?

I thought that the Mystique were the loswest level skates(out of Artiste and Classique) but I read through the site and they sound higher than Artiste b/c people were recommending them and using them upto beginning Freestyle. I'm confused now. I thought they were strictly recreational. What would you recommend for someone about 100lbs starting out and looking to keep them until beginning Freestyle? And do both come with the same blade?

All of the Jackson Recreational skates have PVC bottoms. The disadvantage to them is that most pro shops won't adjust the blade alignment or replace the blades on that material. (Even though they're attached with screws instead of rivets. Not every pro shop wants to fool with the repairs.)

All are leather boots, so they can be punched out, adjusted or even stretched to fit better. I would make sure to get the correct size, both length and width. These boots don't stretch enough to make up a difference in width easily.

The Artiste boots are for low-level beginners; I think the Artiste boots would be too bendy for a 100lb person. The all-purpose blade that comes with it is intended for beginners/recreational skaters, not figure skaters. The blade profile is very flat with a small rocker area and the toerake is set really high, making edge jumps tricky to perform.

The Mystique boot is a mid-level skate with good support and the Mirage blade, which is good for the Basic levels. I would plan on upgrading before Basic 8/Freeskate tests.

If you already skate, buy the Classique. It's the most expensive and highest level, but it will last the longest in skate lesson levels. It has better support and blade than the other two, but it only comes in a "C" width, which is wider than average.

Ask the skating instructors who to go to for skate fittings. Let that person measure you and order the correct skate if they don't have it in stock. Don't get conned into buying a bigger skate when you need a wider width - it's not a good solution.

I've had students in Freeskate classes using RENTAL skates. They would have been better off in their own, well-maintained skates, but these skaters had real strength and talent to overcome the skates' weaknesses. I don't know anyone using Artiste models for freestyle, but if the skater had good ankle strength and balance control, the boot would be okay. The blade's a different issue: it's not a freestyle blade, so it will hold the skater back. In Australia, the local pro shop is willing to upgrade the blades on the PVC-bottomed skates, but many shops in the US will not perform that service.

As I said before, go into a pro shop and just ask about skates. Get their advice and check out the prices - the sales are almost over, so don't wait any longer to buy new skates. I know you've said that you haven't even started skating as yet, so you might want to look at public session schedules as well.

If you don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for one club (driver) or over $500 for a whole set, then go to ebay. People sell brand new clubs for a lot cheaper. I just saw a Nike SQ Dymo 10.5 loft driver on ebay for $56, and it's brand new and in it's wrapper. That's not bad at all.

I think you would be fine with Mystique up until you switch to Freestyle.
I know lots of people will say that they're not appropriate and you should get new ones as you reach a higher level, but realistically who can afford that?
I've had my Mystiques for 3 years now and am currently landing everything up to Axel.
I am finally now getting Freestyles as I feel the time is right, and also I have made as much use as possible out of my old skates.
I managed to complete all the jumps, on them, they didn't restrain me or hold me back.
I'm about the same weight as you as well, and I think you would be perfectly fine with Mystiques.

Mystiques are technically lower than Artiste and Classique, but there is not much difference between them, you would be better off just sticking with the Mystiques, they're cheaper and work just as well.
Hope I helped :)
