The most under-rated I think has to be Jim Caldwell of the Colts. People look at his record at Wake Forest and the first thing they think, "horrible coach." Then because he has Peyton Manning who is considered probably the smartest quarterback in the game, many almost consider Peyton the coach of the team. Not to mention that Caldwell took over a successful team from Dungy, so people hold that against him too. But I watch the moves that he has made, and all of the little things and this guy is a GREAT coach. He had the best start of any first year coach in NFL history, breaking a record that had held since the 1920's for the longest start without a loss. He got them all the way to the Super Bowl in his very first year, something Dungy did only once in his entire career. He also addressed all of the Colts weaknesses head on: adding beef to the defense, improving the running game, working on special teams, playing more aggressive, etc. The Colts had weaknesses that lingered on for years under Dungy. When Caldwell became coach he address each and every one of those weaknesses head on. I also like Caldwell's calm, cool demeanor yet agressive Bellichick like play calling. He throws some trick plays in there and he'll go for it on 4th down when it makes sense. I think his calm cool demeanor and the talent he is surrounded by hides how great of a coach this guy really is.

The most over-rated coach right now in the NFL I think has to be Pete Carroll. Yes, he was a great coach at USC. And for the college system, his style works great. However, he has yet to prove he can do well at all in the NFL. Both of his stints as a head coach in the NFL have been utter failures. And the Seahawks have so many holes to fill that I don't see them doing all that well.

Another one that I think is overrated is Tom Coughlin. The Giants just royally sucked last year. They never beat one single team that had over 3 wins. It won't be long before Coughlin is out of the door even though he has won a Super Bowl. Their defense is in shambles. And when they didn't run the ball like they should their offense royally faltered. For a coach that has won a Super Bowl, his team just played horrible.
